Three-kilometres downriver from Dawson City, on Tr’ondek Hwech’in sacred ground, the 2016 Moosehide Gathering was held in July at the traditional Moosehide village.
The annual event includes feasts, drumming, dancing and singing—a celebration of Indigenous culture.
This year’s gathering was hosted by Tr’ondek Hwech’in Chief Roberta Joseph and William Greenland. Elders opened and closed the ceremonies, along with the Han Singers and Dancers. The celebration was the perfect fit for Up Here magazine’s Arts Issue. Here’s a look behind the scenes of photographer Hannah Eden’s time at the gathering, getting the October cover shot with the Dakhá Khwáan dancers from Whitehorse.
